TEDxParkerschool

TEDx Public event

On November 15th, I hosted TEDxParkerSchool in the Francis W. Parker Auditorium.  A TEDx is a TED-like event which is hosted by someone who has step forward in a community to create discussion and the sharing of ideas.  I was inspired to host it by my mother, who has always pushed me to never give up on what I was passionate about.  I always have been a social person and i had always been interested in conferences like TED, Chicago Ideas Week, and the CUSP conference.  So at the start of the summer i sent in a request and got approved!
It was a lot of work leading up to the event but when the day finally came, everything was perfect.
There were 5 presenters to two entertainers.  A few of the people that came were Dani Deahl, a Chicago DJ, Jim Lasko, the head artistic director at Redmoon, and Casey Neistat, a youtube sensation.  Each of them spoke about the wonder of design and what it means to experience it.  It was really amazing to see all the people in the audience get excited and participate in the event.  After the conference, everyone got a chance to go up and ask any of the speakers questions, or tell them about themselves.  This experience really showed me the power of a community and i can gladly say It was one of the happiest days of my life.

  1. brooke! i love this event so much. It is both incredibly generous and awesome that you and your family have brought this event to our community not just once but twice! I hope that the event can continue even once the last of the mullens leave the school. do you think that is a possibility?
